Around 2018, a year after I was done with secondary school, my mom took ill. I wouldn’t say I was the closest to my mom among my siblings, but I loved her greatly and did everything I could to make her comfortable. I didn’t want her to worry and go through the struggles she had faced in our family due to family issues and her relationship with my father. So I decided I was going to pursue after money.

At first, I wanted to go into some fraudulent online business. I had already set up the idea with a friend. I didn’t care at all about lying and defrauding people. All that mattered was getting rich off it. It looked very lucrative, and it was going to work. We were ready to initiate the idea, but the problem was I had no money to set it in motion. Unfortunately, every plot to try to raise funds failed, so everything shut down.

After some time passed, I met another friend who was into a business that I knew nothing about. He started talking to me about it and did not really reveal to me what it was at the beginning. Later on though, he came out with more information and told me it was the famous yahoo yahoo fraud business. I didn’t think twice about it and got involved because of my desire to get money.

After trying to do yahoo without spiritual backing, and it didn’t yield profit, we got into voodoo or witchcraft or juju, however it is known to you. Since we did not want to get involved with blood, and have to kill people, we went for a concoction with natural herbs that the witch doctor prescribed. After it was done, my friend worked that night before going to bed. He chatted with some of the white clients that he had been communicating with before now who weren’t responding. All of them were now responding! They were so receptive and very willing to do anything he said.

He went to bed happily, hoping to continue the next day. While on the bed, he saw a group of old women physically enter his room. It felt like it was literally happening. They came into his room walking in a procession. One of them picked up the phone that he was using to do yahoo, touched it, and then dropped it. After doing this, they vanished. When he woke up the next morning after all this happened, he resumed talking to those clients, but none of them were receptive anymore. All of them were back to being hard to communicate to, unwilling to do anything with him.

So he went to meet the witch again and the man told him that there is probably a stronger demonic power where he was that had terminated what he did. So it had to be redone. The witch doctor would have to consult the higher powers to see if they could reverse it. But this second trial was unsuccessful.

Some time passed and I was now at Abuja for an A-level program. By this time, my mom had passed away. My involvement in fraud was driven by the desire to make money and provide my mom with a better, more comfortable, and happier life. But she was late. I became very angry at God, and at my father. I hated him because I felt he was one of the causes of my mom’s death. At this point in my life, I was ready to do anything and didn’t care what would happen. Schooling was not really what was on my mind. I just wanted to go there, use most of the funds that I would get to further my yahoo business and make it work, since I was having more funds at the time. The plan was to make a lot of money through this medium, enough to start a life there, and pay for my schooling if I thought it was necessary to go to the University. I planned never to return to Akwa Ibom, never seeing my father’s face again or living in his house. My siblings could come stay or visit with me there if they wanted to see me.

By now, I had a vast knowledge about the yahoo business and what it involved even though I hadn’t started the main activities yet. The witch doctor sent a message again about how the natural concoction was not working. He told us that we would have to harden our hearts and do the blood sacrifice as that would give us a lot more money. This was strange because the initial concoction was supposed to work. We knew and had heard stories of other men that did the same and it worked. They were millionaires, and would come to offer altar servicing sacrifices and give expensive gifts to the witch doctor. So it wasn’t normal that it didn’t work with us.

After the witch doctor proposed the blood ritual, he said it would be in stages and the blood of a baby was what would  be required. All we had to do was to just send the funds and he would get everything needed at each stage, including paying the person to get the baby. We began the payment, they got the baby, and all the other steps to be taken were done, though we couldn’t complete the process. This was because there were some other payments that had to be made and we didn’t really have the money at that time. So it lingered for a while without money to finish the process.

Time passed and the witch doctor sent us a message on one fateful day. He said that because of the delay, the process and all that has been achieved so far had become obsolete. He said they needed to redo things. So we started sending money again for the redoing. And at the point it was almost done, we ran out of money! This happened at different times. It’s either the process done would become faulty or we will not have money to complete the process. On one occasion, everything was almost completed and only one thing was left when we received a message that something happened and the entire process was ruined again. The witch doctor was confused and expressed shock at how this kind of thing hasn’t happened before and that God was involved with us.

We later raised and sent some money for a repeat of the process. But during that time, I travelled back to Akwa Ibom and had no cash flow anymore. My other friends had no money as well. So once again, the whole process ceased and we could no longer continue. The witch  doctor sent messages about the spirits they conjured being angry and that they were going to start attacking us. He had to appease them most times.

Soon after, we learned that the demon spirits were so angry that they attacked the witch doctor and he was almost dead. The man’s sons started sending us messages, threatening to come after us for what happened to their father.

We had tried everything to make the witchcraft process work but to no avail. If money didn’t stop from all angles, something would happen to ruin the work that was done irrespective of whether there was a delay in payment or not.  We even met with other yahoo guys, trying to get help from them to finish our process but those ones too, were closed off. They never accepted to help, strangely. I thought, since we are also doing the same thing, if they would help us, there would be benefits for them too.

But God, having a plan for me to know Him, made sure the process didn’t work. He blocked all the roads and got me back to Akwa Ibom, where He had ordained for me to meet Him. His restraining power blocked everything.  And the biggest deal was how He was able to not allow those spirits to attack us. In my mind, right now, I think I would be dead because those things would have come after us without a doubt. But God secured us, not even a scratch happened.  It was even the witch doctor, the one with the power, that was struck and not us.

I thank God so much for His restraining hand and power that even when I was ready to go all out to make money, to do anything, to involve myself with anything, He made every single step fail. I see His hand in it, in every stage of failure. I thank Him because he reserved me till when He would bring me to Himself. He cut off every connection with that past and has made me a new person entirely. For these, I bless the name of God. And may He be glorified in all the earth.
