Initially, I felt like I was the only one interested in evangelising, as my Christian friends seemed unenthusiastic. The little boldness I gathered when I was in Dundee seemed to fade each time I imagined myself evangelising alone on the busy streets of Edinburgh.
The pastor in my local assembly here explained that people are not always free at the same time, so the church group does not keep a fixed time for evangelism. Disappointed, I continued to pray for guidance and an evangelism partner. In the meantime, I shared my faith with colleagues at work who showed interest.
One of the elders in the local assembly later introduced me to a young man from the youth group who evangelised routinely with a team. Interestingly, his team had prayed for more people to join them the night before! I joined the team, making us six members, including two women. We evangelise every week, sometimes twice, and have an amazing time sharing God’s love with people. I believe this team is genuinely passionate about God and His Word, and I am so grateful to God for them.
Back in Dundee, evangelism normally lasted about one or two hours because others would start complaining that they wanted to leave, but my current group stays out for 4 to 5 hours, braving the cold streets of Edinburgh. We also offer free hot coffee and tea to attract people, and we preach to anyone who stops to talk to us.
I have been truly blessed by the company of these wonderful brethren. I have preached to more people than I have in a long time and have prayed for many individuals over the past few weeks during our evangelism efforts.
I have also had the opportunity to meet evangelism teams from other church groups who are passionate about God and spreading the Gospel. Last Saturday, we all came together to pray for the people and the city of Edinburgh. I was reminded of Elijah’s story, where he thought he was the only one serving God, but God showed him 7,000 reserved for Himself.
Evangelism has been progressing well so far, and God has been incredibly faithful in guiding me through the journey. I pray that God will continue to use us to accomplish His great works in Edinburgh.
God be praised!
