GT08 | Learning to Trust…

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplications, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

As a student in the University, one of the worst nightmares is having an incomplete result scenario. The stress of visits to several offices, repeated explanations, frequent turndowns, and bureaucracy leading to near-certainty of carrying over the course. To be saved from that nightmare, I had to take a class on trusting God regardless of the challenges.

I am a student of University of Uyo. I took an examination in a General Studies course (GST). When the result came out, I had an incomplete Continuous Assessment. I had written tests and assignments but it was not recorded. I spoke with my shepherd, Sister Peace and she encouraged me. She told me not to be anxious for anything (Philippians 4:6). I filled a complaint form and I was to take it to someone to sign for me. The lecturer who signed it discouraged me from seeking for it to be rectified. He told me to register the course as a carryover course. He plainly said it would not be rectified.

Usually, this particular lecturer goes around ‘prophesying’ over people. So in my case, he said his spirit was telling him it would not be rectified. I was just thinking “God, please let this man sign my form so I can go”. Then I told my shepherd about this and we agreed in prayer that God’s will would be done. I had been going every week to the offices to check for the outcome. All this while, I had peace. I wasn’t the only one that had this issue.

Two months later, I found out that the results of the other people had been rectified and released, but mine wasn’t. At first, I wasn’t panicking. I just thought God was using this situation to teach me faith and perseverance, but at some point, it got to me. I was crying the last time I went to see my shepherd, sis Peace. I thought I had no hope because, I am a Direct Entry student and I didn’t need issues like this. I hadn’t even registered my courses because I was waiting for the course to be rectified. It was not funny at all. My shepherd told me to be in church the next day. She gave me passages and told me to read them. I had peace after then. When I was reading the Book of Proverbs, God was telling me that real trust is, trusting in Him even when we do not understand what He is saying. I did not understand how to trust like that.

I asked the Prophetic Intercessory Team to pray for me. I was still confused on whether I should still wait for the issue to be rectified or just go on to register the course again. I got no answer. I spoke with another sister and she told me to have peace. I did not go to the offices for a while. Later on, I went back to check on it and I met a man who knew my name because I had been regular in the office. The man told me that the result had been out and rectified. He told me to meet my exam officer to paste the result. God has taught me how to persevere through this and I am grateful.
